May I introduce myself?

by Fabiana Giron
Posted on 31 July, 2009

My name is Fabiana and I live in Argentina. I started participating in this community and I realised I had not introduced myself! I am a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language with a University Degree and I have a Master´s Degree in NLP, which I apply to education. I am very interested in sharing opinions and ideas about English Learning and Teaching. Even though I have been teaching for 20 years, it has only been two years since I started teaching online. So, I leave a question to all the people in this forum. "How do you keep motivation going when you teach online? " Thanks a lot for reading! Fabiana

My name is Susana Gilmore
I am an English - private tutor in Buenos Aires, ARgentina. I mainly teach adults and mainly high levels - from Pre-intermediate to advanced. I have been teaching now for more than 12 years and I always try to motivate my students providing them with new and interesting material every class. Maybe this is easier to do when you don't teach groups, since in this way I can adapt the class and personalize it to each student's needs. Even when I teach coursebooks, I don't stick to them to the letter. I try to make my classes as communicative as possible, using a reading or a listening text as a trigger for a conversation. I am looking forward to teaching online but to tell you the truth, I haven't found out yet what steps I must take in order to do so. So, If any of the people in this forum could instruct me how to do it, I will be very grateful . Doing so, I will be able to share my lessons with you.

Sukhpreet,

Thank you for your encouragment!

Susana,

you can learn a lot from other teachers viewing some recordings and then personalizing the class the way it is more comfortable for you.
Just do it!

yoga,
I will tell you about my lessons, what exactly are you interested in?

I think as long as you enjoy what you do, motivation would not be a problem, so make your interactions interesting not just for the students, but for yourselves, challenge yourself on what are the new approaches you can take to transmitting the same old message. Hope this helps

Take care
