Comment from a non-expert: I would say yes, grammar is extremely important. What I have observed is that if I am listening to a speaker with poor grammar in his speech, I focus less on the content of his speech and more on his grammatical mistakes. This means that the purpose of the language itself i.e. to communicate the the speaker's thought, is obviated.

I wonder if at all speaker would be better able to communicate what he or she wants without the proper usage of grammar and there is every chance that the listener may not be able to comprehend what he or she actually want to say. so i believe appropriate usage of grammar is very important for better conversation. Happy learning

Grammar is not as vital as pronunciation. However, its necessary to use proper grammar to express one's ideas. You could be very well aware of grammar but people still do not get what you are trying to convey to them.

I agree that grammar is important in order to include the vocabulary and structures needed to speak fluent English. However, we teachers should teach grammar in meaningful contexts, in this way it will be better assimilated and will be more interesting as well.

There is not language without grammar! There is only noise!

When a driver reads a map he can find the easiest way to get to his destination without mistakes and within his time limit. So grammar provides this base in languages also. Nouns and verbs are must in any lang.

Dear friends,

I think grammar is important, of course, but what is also extremely important is to express yourself in a way that "sounds" english. For example, if you are translating your thoughts and ideas from your native language, even though you may have a perfect grammar, you would not be expressing yourself in everyday spoken english.
Also, I don´t believe that is the "must". The important issue is to create a good combination between grammar, pronunciation and english structures and collocations that make your speech understandable to the person or group of people that you are talking, and that you can also understand them.
Culturally speaking, this issue is very important!

Yes, undoubtedly true because grammar consists of the rules which convey meaning.
